While the iPhone 7 release date won't likely come until fall 2016, Apple is reportedly busy in developing the next model after the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus. Interestingly, recent reports from South Korea suggest that the tech giant will be working with its biggest industry rival Samsung to create the new iPhone.
Latest rumors from Samsung's homeland, South Korea, suggested that Samsung has won an important contract. The company is said to be producing some of Apple's screen orders for its Apple Watch product, and this could lead into a possible collaboration between the two in creating the iPhone 7, reports Value Walk.
According to the site, Apple might utilize the same screen technology used in the Apple Watch for the development of the iPhone 7. The Apple Watch features an OLED display that has also been used by Android smartphones, especially Samsung.
Early rumors suggested that Apple may consider shifting to OLED, considering how the Samsung screen technology has been well-received by both consumers and critics. With the rumored release of the iPhone 7 in September 2016, Apple is speculated to shift to the technology sooner rather than later.
After all, Apple reportedly has already received some OLED display samples from Samsung which could be used in the upcoming iPhone model. Reports indicate that Apple would like to use the screen technology to increase specifications in the iPhone series that are being held back due to some production blockage.
Apple has not yet released an official statement regarding Samsung's screen technology although it is speculated that the tech giant will make a decision within November. As Apple fans and industry observers know, Apple is recognized for being cautious about introducing new technology. Therefore, if the company becomes unsure about the benefits of OLED and its usefulness in the iPhone 7, it will probably delay the iPhone 7 release until 2017.
While the said contract may be important to Samsung, it is still in competition with other tech companies like LG, which is also supplying OLED displays for the Apple Watch and JDI.
Intel LTE modem chip is another rumored feature that consumers would expect from the iPhone 7. The chip that transmits wireless 4g data into the phone shall be supplied by Qualcomm.
A waterproof iPhone 7 is being studied and could be a possible new innovation. With all these said, it will not only make it practical for consumers but also some health-tracking functionality. Apple consumers could only hope for the best and wait for the company's official announcement.
