Haunted Hotels for Sale: Historically Haunted Josephine Hotel Is On The Marke

Named a historical site by the Alabama National Historic Register, the 1880 Josephine Hotel at 126 Prairie St., Union Springs, Alabama is now listed on the market for $150,000.

The hotel, which is built in 1880, retains its old, weathered facade and interiors, to a great extent, although it has been renovated several times, according to Promised Land Realty, the firm tasked to sell Josephine Hotel.

The old hotel features a total of 17,000 square feet with 5,000 square feet of restored area and upgrades such as new wiring on the main floor and new roof. The building also has access to Internet, power, cable, and gas.

Josephine Hotel has three floors, a total of 32 rooms, wooden floors throughout the building, and three bathrooms on the ground floor. The only functional level is the main floor, which is used as a cafe, a small local museum, a local art and events center, according to Historic Properties website.

The hotel is rumored to be haunted by ghosts and is featured in "Haunted Alabama Black Belt," a book that delves on ghost sightings and hauntings in one of Alabama's most historic areas. Local ghost tours and hunts are conducted regularly in the building, which attract many ghost enthusiasts and paranormal experts.

Josephine Hotel is nestled in Union Springs, one of the oldest towns in the Southern United States. As one of the country's most historic sites, Union Springs is littered with other historically significant structures and real estate properties, including a 200-year old jail, the 1854 Foster House, and the 1841 Sardis Baptist Church.

Union Springs flourished after the Civil War when two major railroads intersected in the city, turning Union Springs into a vital hub in the growing network of railroads in the country back in the 1800s and early 1900s.
