"Switched at Birth" Season 5 was recently renewed by ABC Family, and the show will premiere sometime next year. Another hit show from the network is "The Fosters," which will premiere its third season in 2016.
According to Cartermatt, it's highly possible that the network will consider doing a crossover for both shows because they have very similar themes and wonderful cast members.
"Switched at Birth" and "The Fosters" are two ABC Family shows that revolve around the lives of a not-so-perfect-family, but one that has so much love for each other; for instance, the former stars Bay (Vanessa Marano) and Daphne (Katie Leclerc) who were switched at birth. After their real identities were revealed, the two decided to put the past behind them and start living forward.
A similar plot could be seen on "The Fosters," where an orphan was adopted into a family who has learned to love and accept her unconditionally.
Meanwhile, all of the characters on both shows also have their own fair share of individual issues. Thus, seeing a crossover may really be appealing to majority of the fans.
In other news, ABC Family will be called Freeform starting January 2016. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the network's rebranding will officially commence when "Pretty Little Liars" premieres on Jan. 12.
ABC Family president Tom Ascheim said that their decision to change the network's name was borne out of their desire to cater to new audiences between the ages of 14 to 34.
"In many ways, this feels to us like an evolution - not a huge change. If we wanted to grow and reach new people, we couldn't have this very narrow sense of who we were and hope to attract new consumeers. In an attempt to build on our strength and attract new folks, we thought it was time to change our name," he said.
