The Golden State Warriors scored a huge 50-point win over the Memphis Grizzlies who were no match for rolling Stephen Curry. The reigning NBA MVP followed up his 53-point performance from the weekend with another big win to lead the unbeaten Warriors past the Grizzlies 119-69 on Monday night.
Curry scored 21 of his 30 points in the third quarter and did not play in the fourth quarter. In Saturday's win over New Orleans, Curry won Western Conference Player of the Week after averaging a league-best 39.3 points. The Warriors outscored the Grizzlies 72-27 over the second and third quarters, the worst defeat in franchise history of the Memphis Grizzlies.
According to NBA news, the huge 50-point win by the Warriors was the first after 24 years, when the team beat Sacramento 153-91 on Nov. 2, 1991. The three opponents of the Warriors in four games (they faced the Pelicans twice already) have been eliminated by the Warriors in last season's playoff en route to an NBA championship. In the last Western Conference semifinals, the Warriors beat the Grizzlies in six games.
Interim Grizzlies coach Luke Walton has said that there's a pressure factor when they begin making shots and they begin locking up on guard, as it can cause players to fold, but Memphis is not one of those as they had just a reduced shooting night.
Draymond Green said that he doesn't think anyone is intimidated by the Warriors, and that the team just raised the level of play.
The defending champion Warriors have actually improved over last season. The 50-point loss of the Grizzlies was their worst loss in franchise history. Their first worst loss was by 49 points when they were the Vancouver Grizzlies in 1995, as reported by ESPN.
After Bogut got injured in last Tuesday's season opener against the Pelicans, he will now be going through the NBA's concussion protocol. Walton said that he did a Sunday workout and needs to get through a contact practice.
