"Star Trek" fans will be excited to know that the classic television series will once again grace their TV screens come January 2017 via CBS Television Network, reported by "Star Trek" website startrek.com.
The premiere will air on CBS while succeeding episodes will be on its digital and video on demand platform. After which, the show will be available in the US via CBS All Access, the networks digital subscription video on demand and live streaming service.
Alex Kurtzman one of the executive producers is exploring new takes on the beloved Sci-fi series. Kurtzman also produced the "Star Trek" feature film series, co-writing 2013's "Star Trek Into Darkness" and 2009's franchise revival. The series will introduce new characters in imaginative new worlds and entirely new civilizations while still connected to the dramatic contemporary themes the show is known for since its launch in 1966, according to Hollywood Reporter.
The show is set to celebrate its 50th anniversary next year. The set up is at CBS Television Studios and Kurtzman's Secret Hideout. Currently, the show is looking for a writer to take on the hit show, continued the same news portal.
The original series, which became a monster hit, starring William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy was also distributed by CBS. It was produced by Paramount Television and Desilu Productions. It had three seasons an a total of 79 episodes.
According to Marc DeBevoise, executive VP and GM at CBS Digital Media, as noted in the same report done by Hollywood Reporter, "We've experienced terrific growth for CBS All Access, expanding the service across affiliates and devices in a very short time. We now have an incredible opportunity to accelerate this growth with the iconic Star Trek, and its devoted and passionate fan base, as our first original series."
Fans can expect to have more updates as the TV series progresses in the coming months. Meanwhile, all previous "Star Trek" series can be viewed via CBS All Access.
