Nicole Kidman is in talks to star in the upcoming DC Comics adaptation, "Wonder Woman." According to The Wrap, Kidman will be playing "a high-ranking Amazonian warrior" opposite Gal Gadot.
While Warner Bros. has not released an official statement, many fans are speculating on which role the Oscar winner will be playing. According to Cinema Blend, if the reports are to be believed and Kidman will in fact portray an Amazonian warrior, then one very possible role would be Hippolyta. In the comics, Hippolyta is Wonder Woman's mother and also the queen of the Amazons.
Another Amazonian warrior in the comics is Artemis, Wonder Woman's best friend. According to USA Today, Artemis is one of the fiercest warriors in the story and playing the role will give Kidman more physically demanding scenes.
Others suggest that Kidman might instead appear as a villain. In the DC universe, two main villains could suit Kidman: Circle and Baroness Von Gunther. Circle is a red-haired immortal enchantress who causes conflict between Wonder Woman and Hippolyta.
Baroness Von Gunther, on the other hand, is a German-speaking Nazi mastermind. While Kidman is known for her Australian roots, fans have seen her impressive language skills in her 1995 film "The Interpreter," and taking up a thick German accent will be easy for the actress.
This is not the first time the Academy Award-winning celebrity will star in a superhero movie. In 1995, Kidman appeared in "Batman Forever," also a DC adaptation. She played Dr. Chase Meridian, Batman/Bruce Wayne's (Val Kilmer) love interest.
"Wonder Woman" will be directed by Patty Jenkins and will also star Chris Pine as Steve Trevor, Wonder Woman's love interest. Production is said to start before the year ends, and the movie is scheduled for a June 2017 release.
