Philip Pullman’s ‘His Dark Materials’ Will Soon Hit the TV Screen

After selling 17.5 million copies of fantasy books worldwide, the trilogy, "His Dark Materials," will soon be adapted in a TV Series to be distributed by BBC One, Independent UK shared the good news.

According to Variety, BBC One has given the go signal to commission an eight-part series to be produced in Wales from New Line Cinema and Bad Wolf.

Those who have read the books have nothing to do but to wait for the series to commence but for those who have read them yet, "Northern Lights" is the first part of the trilogy, which introduces the main character, Lyra, an orphan, living in a parallel universe where science, theology and magic co-existed and entangled with each other. When her friend was kidnapped, she went on a journey to find him and she discovers an evil plot that would put children's live in danger. She also vows to learn more about the enigmatic occurrence referred to as Dust.

In the second intallment, titled "The Subtle Knife," a boy who carries a knife that can penetrate windows between different dimensions would join her. Lyra will discover the truth about her parents and her foretold fate while the young protagonists are thrown into a war of cosmic powers that reaches and affects various domains. The trilogy will be concluded in the third book, "The Amber Spyglass."

Pullman, who will be one of the executive producers, together with Tranter and Gardner for Bad Wolf, Toby Emmerich and Carolyn Blackwood for New Line Cinema, and Deborah Forte for Scholastic, said in a Variety exclusive report, "It's been a constant source of pleasure to me to see this story adapted to different forms and presented in different media. It's been a radio play, a stage play, a film, an audiobook, a graphic novel - and now comes this version for television."

No report as to when the series will be shown yet.
