‘Elementary’ Season 4 Premiere and Spoilers: Sneak Peek Video Reveals Sherlock Still in Contact with Moriarty; Joan’s Backstory & Mama Holmes to be Featured

Season 4 of "Elementary" is set to come back tonight, and fans have been teased with a sneak peek video offering a glimpse into the show's premiere episode. Recent reports also claim that the new season may delve into the backstory of Joan Watson (Lucy Liu), particularly her relationship with her stepfather, as well as the mom of Sherlock Holmes (Jonny Lee Miller).

In the sneak peek video posted by TV Line, it was revealed that Sherlock has kept contact with Moriarty, played by Natalie Dormer. In the video, Sherlock, who fears he'll be imprisoned for beating up Oscar (Michael Weston) in the last season, tells Watson that they can exchange letters while he's in jail, just like he and Moriarty does. This comes as a shock to Joan, who responds, "That's still going on?"

The scene seemingly teases Moriarty's return in the show, but this has not been confirmed as of late because of the busy schedule of actress Dormer, who also stars in "Game of Thrones" and is also part of the last installment of the movie franchise "The Hunger Games."

Meanwhile, TV Guide got to interview series creator Rob Doherty, who dished some details on events that fans can expect in "Elementary" Season 4. The report states that Joan's backstory will be explored, and viewers will get to know more about her stepfather, which she apparently has a complicated relationship with.

It was also said that since Sherlock's father, to be played by John Noble, will be coming in Season 4, Mama Holmes, or Sherlock's mom, may also be featured in the season. It's a known fact that Sherlock and his father have a difficult relationship, and Sherlock's mom may reportedly be the cause.

"Elementary" returns with Season 4 on CBS on Thursday, 9 pm. Meanwhile, Sky Living has announced that the UK premiere of the show is slated for Nov. 19, also at 9 pm.
