'World of Warcraft' Loses More Subscribers, The Latest Plunge Takes the Numbers Down to 5.5 million

"World of Warcraft" number of subscribers has fallen down to 5.5 million.

Based on the latest earning report of Activision Blizzard, "World of Warcraft" subscription reportedly still remains fairly stable despite the decrease in numbers. The company has reported that players are still excitedly anticipating the upcoming expansion "Legion" that will bring new class, customizable Artifact weapons and class order halls among others. In the same report, the company has announced it plan to acquire King, the "Candy Crush Saga" maker, for $5.9 Billion. With this move, the company aims to broaden its global reach.

Moreover, Activision Blizzard claims that despite the decrease in subscription "World of Warcraft" is still the top subscription-based MMORPG worldwide.

It has lost more than half of its subscribers since its peak in 2010 when it "World of Warcraft" hit a total of about 12 million subscribers, according to a 2013 report in Time. Subscription began to fall in 2011. Subscription continued to fall this year.

Down by 100,000 subscribers from three months ago, this is the latest plunge in the number of "World of Warcraft" subscribers.

According to IGN, Activision will no longer release updates on subscription numbers of the MMORPG. It will instead focus on other metrics, which the company has not yet specified. It was also reported that the fall in subscribers was normally expected at a time when no new DLC have been released. The company is most likely hopefully that subscription will pick up after the upcoming expansion, "Legion", is launched.

In another news, "Warcraft" the movie based on the "World of Warcraft" will showcase its first trailer at Blizzcon, according to Entertainment Weekly. Director Duncan Jones has said that the film will not only be for hardcore "World of Warcraft" fanatics but it would also be a film that even those not familiar to the game would love to watch.
