Pirated movies and files are proliferate in the internet world and one of the leading group that provides them, the YIFY, has finally been shut down by the authorities.
According to pocket-lint.com, YIFY became well- known due to their relatively small sized files but with good quality mp4 materials. Most of their files are Blu- ray copies in 720p and 1080p. Illegal file sharers are keeping an eye on their works as their materials go straight on the top of torrent lists. However, the authorities too are keeping their eye on the group.
The Motion Picture Association of America said that they already know the identity of the YIFY's leader who is based in New Zealand and operating a torrent site called YTS. MPAA said that they have already filed a lawsuit against the group and that "YTS and YIFY are now gone forever."
Head of the organization [MPAA] Chris Dodd said "This coordinated legal action is part of a larger comprehensive approach being taken by the MPAA and its international affiliates to combat content theft. Popcorn Time and YTS are illegal platforms that exist for one clear reason: to distribute stolen copies of the latest motion picture and television shows without compensating the people who worked so hard to make them."
Popcorn Time is also an illegal sharer that streamed illegal film copies through a browser.
In a report by engadget.com, in five years of YIFY's operation, they have shared and infringe more than 4,500 titles and they got 72 out of top 100 HD movies section in Pirate Bay. Due to YIFY's shutdown, it is expected that the release of films with high definition quality will decrease until a new group takes their place. Hollywood studios and MPAA have been doing extensive efforts to eliminate illegal file sharers but many users are turning to other file sharing sites once a site got shut down.
