Once the official holiday season is over in January, it's time to get back into routine for both professionals and homemakers. While professionals have to get back into their working mood, homemakers are presented with the daunting task of doing away with all the Christmas decorations and themes.
Here is something new to try this season; welcome the festivities for the entire winter.
Marc Thee, a Zillow Digs Board of Designers member and design principal at Marc-Michaels Interior Design has listed some interesting, budget-friendly tips that not only blend into the festive season but can last the entire winter season.
This Christmas, Thee suggests to go all-white as it is the least dominating color.
"Avoid red at all costs," Thee said. "It ties you to Christmas." Instead, he suggests having a more subdued palette that feels festive without tying you to a specific day of the year. I know stockings are fun, but I've seen gorgeous white-fur ones," he added. "I say keep it neutral," Zillow reports.
Since gold and silver hues, the dominative colours of the festive season, don't match up with the outdoor environment, a metallic-based theme can be incorporated. For example, on mantles and table tops, homemakers can purchase various-sized glass containers and fill them with metallic spray-painted pine cones.
"The holidays personify metallic," Thee said. "Everyone goes to gold and silver, but more muted and warmer tones such as bronze and platinum will last beyond the holidays. It's elegant and simple."
Instead of following the traditional way of celebrating Christmas with one large Christmas tree, Thee advices homemakers to get inspired from outdoor environments. This year, try adopting a natural element theme throughout your home. For example, fill tall glasses with leaf cuts and metallic accents such as hurricane or votive candles.
"The first place you should go [when decorating] is outside," Thee said. "See what you can find. Boughs of magnolia [for example] last for a very, very long time. Whether a beautiful tablescape, decorated mantle or a gorgeous cocktail table, these are things that can be mixed and matched."
