"Outlander" Season 2 based on the novel written by Diana Gabaldon would sometimes add scenes which are not on the novel, taking a different plot like the rape scene in the previous season.
Author Gabaldon is involved in the TV adaptation as well as the addition of the rape scene between Black Jack Randall (Tobias Menzies) and Jamie (Sam Heughan). The brutal encounter initiated by Black Jack shocked many viewers but according to the author, it will be explained in the upcoming season.
"It occurs as a very integral part of the plot. They filmed those scenes pretty much straight out of the book — the scenes in the prison and so forth," Gabaldon said in an interview with Radio Times.
She added that the scene was crucial for the story and that it is different from other rape scenes since it is "in no way gratuitous."
"In the book, it builds this conflict, which is actually a triangle, you might say, amongst Claire, Jamie and Black Jack Randall. You see it developing — the dimensions and aspects — through the entire story," she said.
Meanwhile, it is reported that Brianna Randall, Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire's (Caitriona Balfe) daughter, will be part of the series. She will be seeing her father while travelling through time, which was part of book four. But said scene will be incorporated on "Outlander" season 2, Movie News Guide reported.
Brianna was already introduced on the second book titled "Dragonfly in Amber." As of this writing, the role of Brianna is still open but it was rumored that Irish actress Maeve Foley will play the role. However, Foley's involvement to the show was dismissed.
Executive producer Maril Davis revealed through a Twitter post that there is no truth to the rumor, saying: "For those asking any & all REAL casting news will only come from official source like @Outlander_Starz or @sony or sometimes a producer."
"Outlander" season 2 is set to premiere on March 2016 on Starz.
