Sony PlayStation VR Features, Specs and Release Date: With 5.7” OLED Display, Accelerometer and Gyroscope; To be Launched in 2016

PlayStation VR Video has been released by Sony for its upcoming virtual reality headset for PlayStation 4. While the video provides a look at the form factor, it also reveals the device's hardware specifications.

According to Game Spot, as seen in the video, PlayStation VR will feature a 5.7" OLED display, 120Hz refresh rate, a resolution of 1920xRGBx1080, a field-of-view of approximately 100-degrees, positional tracking with nine LEDS, an accelerometer and gyroscope, 3D audio, as well as HDMI and USB interfaces.

In an interview with Shuhei Yoshida, he stated that Sony is not ready to announce the date and price, even though the hardware is basically done.

Yoshida further said that Tokyo is working hard to get the system software done and to improve it to make sure that the customers and developers will have a great experience. Sony also wanted to make sure that when the company launches, they can have a good selection of games, so this time it's still early to set out the price and date.

With regards to this development, the company has previously said that the PlayStation VR headset will be available in the first half of 2016, which is also mentioned in the new video. As per the statement of PlayStation's president, Andrew House, the headset will be priced "as a new gaming platform," but he did not provide specific figures.

Gamer Zone said Sony's Shuhei Yoshida has stated about the company that it is not ready yet to give a date and price of the device, despite the fact that it is already done. Yoshida continued to say that Tokyo is striving to get the programming done and enhance it so that clients and designers can have an extraordinary experience.

In spite of this, the company said that the device will be accessible in the first half of 2016. PlayStation president, Andrew House, has also said that it will be evaluated "as another gaming stage," but he didn't give any more specifics.
