Blizzard's "Overwatch" will soon be playable on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
"Overwatch" was previously announced as a PC-only game but later on it was found out that the developers have planned to release in on consoles since its inception. The revelation was made during an "Overwatch" panel at BlizzCon.
According to IGN, game director Jeff Kaplan said, "It was kind of a dream of ours. When we started to make Overwatch, it was our goal from day one to have this game playable on console."
He explained though that a cross-play between PC and console wasn't happening. As Kaplan reportedly has put it, each version are "their own ecosystem." But while gamers will surely see full integration of "Overwatch" with both Xbox Live and PlayStation Network, there are no plans for "Overwatch" to have a Mac version because developers think that it is too challenging.
According to Polygon, pre-ordering the game via Battle.net entitles the player to a bonus Noir Widowmaker. However, the game will not be playable until spring next year. Specifically, Battle.net states that the game is expected to be released on or before June 21, 2016 and all content will be available at launch date.
Contrary to what was previously rumored, "Overwatch" is not a free-to-play game. The shooter game will be sold in three editions. First is the basic edition for $39.99 that includes 21 heroes and basic environments. Next is "Overwatch: Origins Edition" that will sell at $59.99. It includes the base game, 21 heroes, five origin skins and other in game goodies. Lastly, the "Overwatch: Collector's Edition" that will be at around $130, which comes with a source book, a soundtrack, and a statue of Soldier 76 besides the base game.
While the first two editions can now be pre-purchased, the collector's edition will not be digitally available so it must be acquired from official retailers.
