Tyra Banks announced in mid-October that "America's Next Top Model" Cycle 22 is going to be the show's last, but it looks like the hit fashion reality show might not be cancelled after all. Cycle 23 is still a possibility.
Deadline has learned that Top Model is looking for a new home. Its executive producer and showrunner Ken Mok is currently pitching the show to cable and streaming platforms such as Netflix, Hulu and Amazon.
Apparently, when the cancellation of ANTM in The CW was announced, cable and streaming outlets develop an interest for a reboot. Deadline said Mok and Scott Koondel (from CBS TV Distribution) have been presenting to potential buyers. The show's off-network runs on cable networks such as Oxygen, VH1 and Brave, as well as on Netflix, Hulu and Amazon have been a success in the past.
While Tyra said in the announcement of the show's cancellation that she thinks it's about time to end ANTM after 12 years on television, she is reportedly supportive of the reboot and will still be an executive producer. Her onscreen involvement is yet to be confirmed though.
Tyra's announcement on Oct. 14 reads, "Thinking #ANTM #cycle22 should be our last cycle. Yeah, I truly believe it's time. Our diehard fans know we've expanded the definition of beauty, presented what Flawsome is, tooched and booched and boom boom boomed, shown the world how to show their neck, rocked couture/catalogue/commercial poses, have found our (and your) light, strutted countless runways, gone on tons of go-sees, added guys to the girls mix, and have traveled around the globe and back again. Yeah, it's time. It really is."
"America's Next Top Model" debuted in 2003 on UPN. The CW picked up the show in 2006 when UPN cancelled it as it merged with WB.
"America's Next Top Model" Cycle 22 is down to its last few episodes with only five remaining contestants. The finale is scheduled to air on Dec. 4.
