Terminally-Ill Man Gets Dying Wish To See 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Ahead of Scheduled Release

A dying fan gets his last wish to see the "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" ahead of scheduled official release.

According to Polygon, a terminally-ill man from Texas got to see "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" ahead of everybody else after his dying wish to see the last chapter in the "Star Wars" franchise went viral. Daniel Fleetwood, 32, was told he only had two months left to live due to a rare cancer of the connective tissue known as spindle cell sarcoma.

Fleetwood feared that he might not make it to the premiere of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." Here reportedly told KPRC-TV last week, "Judging by how progressive the disease has gotten in the past two months, I really don't think that I'll be able to make it."

His wife, Ashley initiated the campaign for Daniel to have his wish via Twitter with the hashtag #forcefordaniel and a caption saying "help my man get his last wish, to see a screening of Star Wars before cancer takes him. @bad_robot"

He did get his wish. Fleetwood's wife, Ashley, said via Facebook, that Daniel's wish had been granted and that they are very grateful to all those who supported them. She also thanked Director J.J. Abrams for calling them personally to tell them the film will be screened for Daniel.

According to Fox News, this is not the first time that Abrams has granted a special screening for a terminally-ill fan. In 2013, he reportedly gave the same opportunity for a fan to see the first cut of "Star Trek: Into Darkness." The said fan died days later. Mark Hamill, who played Luke Skywalker in three "Star Wars" films took to Twitter to personally commend those who made Fleetwood's dream come true.

"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" premieres in theaters on Dec 18.
