Daryl Hall, the lead vocalist of the veteran pop-rock band 'Hall & Oates' is reportedly selling the 'John Bray House', the oldest home in Maine, for $1.99 million, according to some real estate sources.
The 'Bray House', as it is popularly known, is one of the oldest buildings of the state. According to All Things Maine, the home was built in 1662 by John Bray, a rich Englishman hailing from Plymouth. The residence is only a part of the estate Bray built. Over the years, the home was used for court meetings and other formal gatherings. The home was rendered a historic structure in 1979.
Hall purchased the residence in an auction in 2008 for $1.9 million. According to Sea Coast Online, it took him just 15 minutes to seal the deal. Over the years, he has restored the place and is now looking for just about $19,000 profit on the deal.
Listing records at Realtor.com reveal that the home is a 3933 square feet, single family home sitting on a prime 1.5 acre lot. Comprising of four bedrooms and three full and one half bathroom, the house has exquisite interior features like hardwood flooring, panelled walls, beamed and dry-wall ceilings with French windows and wooden doors.
Outside, there is a deck facing the Atlantic Ocean and rolling greens for ample recreation and relaxation. Sotheby's International Realty states that the home has also served as a tavern, a school and a grocery store.
The Sotheby's listing describes the place as:
The rare, 1.50 acre +/-, lot is elevated and offers unrivaled views of the harbor, islands, Whaleback lighthouse, along with a newly constructed dock indulging access to the bold Atlantic Ocean. Listed on the National Registry of Historic Places, the fully modernized four bedroom, five bath home has been remarkably preserved and retains many of its original architectural details. Five fireplaces, fine richly paneled walls, ten inch thick walls and uniquely high ceilings add to the charm and character of this remarkable piece of living history.

Hall and Oates produced several hits like 'Private Eyes' and 'Maneater'. However, his love for vintage architecture made him switch vocations. He took up restoration and has restored several homes in England and the U.S.
"Daryl's Restoration Over-Hall", a brand new home renovation realty series featuring Hall is expected to debut soon on Scripps Networks Interactive's DIY Network. It will be produced by Hall and his manager Jonathan Wolfson and directed by Michael Morrissey, reports The Wrap.
"This is yet another way of putting my creativity and my other passions aside from music out there, so they can all mix together. We have a legacy of unique antique architecture here in America. Unfortunately, in many cases, they have been let go, demolished or altered inconsistently to their original character," Hall told the publication talking about the series.
