It has been obvious from the start that the actors who played superhero roles in Marvel's "Avengers" were not getting marvelously fat and equal paychecks. Everybody knows Robert Downey, Jr., who is famous for his role as Iron Man in "Age of Ultron," was paid the highest. So who comes next?
Surprisingly, it isn't Chris Evan who played Captain America. Neither was it Chris Hemsworth, who played Norse god Thor, who received the next gigantic paycheck. According to Comic Book Movie, it is Scarlett Johansson, a.k.a. the Black Widow in "Avengers" franchise, who is the second highest paid "Avengers" actor for the "Age of Ultron" movie.
While Robert Downey, Jr. received the biggest pay of $40 million, Scarlett Johansson got only half of that or $20 million. Nevertheless it is still more than twice the earnings of the rest of the "Avenger's" cast. Next to Johansson is Chris Evans who scored $6.9 million, then Jeremy Renner who got $6.1 million. Thor or Chris Hemsworth got $5.4 million and the lowest paid Avenger's actor is Mark Ruffalo, who played Incredible Hulk, earning only $2.8 million.
According to Polygon, even if her paycheck was only half of Robert Downey, Jr.'s, Johansson did manage to negotiate a big raise for her pay. She reportedly earned somewhere between $5 million and $6 million in the previous "Avengers" films. While Scarlet got a raise, RDJ gets a big cut on his pay. He reportedly received $10 million less than he did previously. As for the rest, their paychecks were relatively the same.
There are no confirmations if these actors will continue to work with Marvel on any superhero films in the future but if they could, all of them should be able to ask for a bump in their paychecks since the "Avengers" films have generated more than a billion. We will see if "Captain America" Chris Evans gets a raise in the upcoming Marvel film "Captain America: Civil War" that will be in theaters on May 6.
