Getting your house all cleaned-up can be challenging when you already cringe at the amount of work that needs to be done. But you don't have to look at the whole thing and feel overwhelmed; instead, cut the pressure into smaller pieces.
Turn a seemingly big task into proportions and make a serious effort seem effortless. Here are 10 quick fixes you can do in five minutes or less according to Realty Times:
1. Shake up your front door welcome mat and give your front steps a sweep. Ignoring this otherwise important spot in your house can result to a crusty mat (that is not very welcoming) and a front door that makes your house look abandoned.
2. Clean out a junk drawer. You open a drawer to find something and immediately close it upon seeing how messy things are in there; and that's enough to make you ignore that drawer altogether. To avoid an entire cabinet of junk drawers, go through them one at a time.
3. Check on your filters. If anything needs cleaning or replacement, it shouldn't take long to book a maintenance service or schedule a visit to Home Depot and get new filters.
4. Check your fridge. Run an inventory and decide what stays and what needs to be tossed in the spoilt bin. Be extra careful with dairy products that have gone past their Best Before date. Do you have a pile of plastic containers with leftovers? Know what is still good to heat and what have been in there for too long.
5. Dust the ceiling fans. Give those fan blades some duster love and finally get them dust free. If you don't, you are actually just spreading dust every time you turn on that ceiling fan.
6. "Pick It Up". Have your kids take part in the clean up with an activity that they can enjoy while also taking care of the clutter. Set a timer for one minute and have them pick up as much things as they can. For more ideas on cleaning activities involving kids, checkout Inner Child Fun.
7. You've been looking at your hazy and blurry reflection on the mirror for days now so you might want to spritz it up. Just a few sprays of mirror cleaner, some paper towel, and some elbow work, and you can enjoy a clear and spotless mirror again.
8. And your windows may need some spritzing too. It is not hazy outside; it's your windows that's gone all frosty from dust.
9. Check non-working light bulbs and swap them out. It shouldn't take an electrician to change bulbs and make the rooms bright and cozy again.
10. Survey the kitchen. Do you find it running out of space? Then spend a few minutes identifying kitchen appliances that you no longer use and find a place for you to safely store them and enjoy a more spacious kitchen.
