IKEA Wire: Buy Furniture According to Chinese Zodiac Sign

No, you don't need an interior decorator or good taste in furniture to do up your house. Not for 2014 at least! All you have to do is buy furniture according to your Chinese Zodiac Sign, says the Singapore branch of Swedish furnishing giant, IKEA.

In the latest round of creative marketing, IKEA Singapore has developed a brand new Facebook app, which urges you to buy IKEA furniture according to your Chinese Zodiac sign.

All you need to do is head over to the IKEA Singapore Facebook page and click on the zodiac sign you belong to. However, if you don't know your sign, you can enter your Date of Birth and the app will indicate your sign.

The page greets you with 'New Year. Better Space' scrawled in bold black letters on top. It continues with a little interesting message:

Say neigh to clutter in the Year of the Horse. Discover our range of products and how it can transform your space through the IKEA Zodiac 2014. Click on your sign or enter your birthdate to start.

Once you click on your sign, a little description about your sign, your lucky colors and your best Chinese zodiac match will appear. Just below that, IKEA will provide you with several furniture options, based on the type of person your sign is.

For example, 2014 is the year of the Horse, according to Chinese Zodiac. The description of the 'Horse' profile looks like this:

IKEA has always thought 'out of the box' when it comes to advertising and marketing campaigns. Earlier, IKEA U.K. hosted a huge sleepover in their store, where they had massages, showed films and even got Sam Faiers of 'The Only Way is Essex' fame to read out bedtime stories. There was an in-house sleep expert as well.

Check out the sleepover event below:

More recently they also introduced an Augmented Reality app that lets you fit the furniture of your choice in your room and decide if the piece is "the one", all virtually.

Bonus: Check out this quiz which determines if you are a metal head or an IKEA Fan.
