Michael Jordan Seeks Permits to Expand Jupiter Home

Michael Jordan, the basketball legend has reportedly sought for permits to expand his already gigantic home in Jupiter, Florida, according to several news reports.

His Airness's home is the largest single family home in South Florida. Jordan purchased the three acre parcel for about $4.8 million in 2008 and spent about $7.8 million building up a 37,000 square feet residence in the area. Construction began in late 2009 to end in early 2013.

According to Gossipextra.com, Jordan has now requested for a construction permit to add a connected 3000 square feet cottage to the existing plot. If the permission is granted, the total area would add up to 40,000 square feet!

A 3000 square feet addition maybe a big deal for some but it is just a 'slight modification' for His Airness. Jordan's representative confirmed to the publication that the player is indeed planning on making the addition soon.

According to local realtor Jeff Lichtenstein, Jordan's residence "has 11 bedrooms, 6 on the 2nd floor alone, a 2-story guard house, an athletic wing together with basketball court and lavish workout facility. It's rumored his huge media room with state-of-the-art electronics is 'cigar friendly'."

News of the expansion comes as Jordan is expecting twin girls with his new bride, Yvette Prieto. The girls will be the first children for the couple. However, Jordan already has two grown sons with his previous wife, Juanita Venoy.

Jordan's Jupiter residence is being called a 'retirement home'.

"The home in Florida is almost finished, and it will be theirs together. In conversation among his staff, the golf club estate has been called a "retirement home," and Jordan's friends like to imagine him in the huge outdoor living area, lounging on a big couch, relaxing. Their wish for him is peace," Wright Thompson, a senior writer for ESPN wrote in a feature for the magazine.

Meanwhile, Jordan has had some hard luck unloading his Chicago mansion. After listing, delisting and going on and off the auction block and failing to sell in several attempts, the home now sports a $16 million.
