Jennifer Lopez recently unveiled the trailer of her upcoming TV series, "Shades of Blue."
Taking to her official Facebook page, the megastar wrote, "So proud of 'Shades of Blue.' Can't wait for you all to see it. Check out the trailer now!" She also added the show's tagline, "Who we think we are and who we turn out to be... are they ever the same?"
"Shades of Blue" is an action-packed drama that follows Lopez's character, Harlee Santos, a Brooklyn detective and single mom, who is morally conflicted between playing good cop or bad cop. In the trailer, Harlee is seen busting a drug scene with her partner, who accidentally kills a guy. To make it look like self-defense, Harlee shoots her partner, knowing he has a bulletproof vest on.
"Sometimes the best cops aren't always the good cops," the tagline reads.
The plot thickens when Harlee gets cornered by the FBI to spy for her boss, Matt Wozniak (Ray Liotta), a corrupt police official. In the final moments of the trailer, Wozniak suspects Harlee's involvement with the FBI and threatens to kill her.
For Lopez, who seems to have done it all -- movies, albums, concerts, endorsements -- "Shades of Blue" is her first foray into the world of television series. She is also co-producing the action drama.
"Watching Jennifer and Ray, as Harlee Santos and Matt Wozniak, navigate and move the lines of truth and morality just to survive the day was an amazing experience," Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas, Lopez's producing partner, told People. "Their characters justified their actions, and often pivoted on a dime in order to keep their heads above water."
"This is a Jennifer you haven't seen since her 'Out of Sight' days," she added.
At 46, Lopez isn't slowing down. Aside from the upcoming series, she is also set to embark on a Las Vegas residency in 2016. She is also set to resume judging duties on the last season of "American Idol."
"Shades of Blue" debuts on Jan. 14, 2016, 9 p.m. on NBC. Watch the trailer below:
