'Yo-Kai Watch' Updates: The Next PokéMon Hopeful RPG-- What Makes This Video Game Different?

"Yo-Kai Watch" is a new role playing game by Nintendo. This popular Japanese video game, which is considered as the next "Pokémon" hopeful, will be launched in the North America on Friday.

In the blog of Wall Street Journal, it says that the popularity of "Yo-Kai Watch" in Japan has already spawned not only some merchandising but also a TV show, movie and dance craze. In fact, report says that this video game has already shoveled in over "$2 billion in sales of games, toys and more."

Developed by Level-5 Inc., the game is about hunting ghost-like creature, which has close resemblance with "Pokémon." Yibada says that "'Yo-Kai Watch' extends way outside of the video game realm," just like how it is with Pokémon" RPG.

But how different is "Yo-Kai Watch" from "Pokémon?" iDigital Times says that this RPG follows a different storyline and gameplay.

The story of "Yo-Kai Watch" is very simple. As a player, you either choose to Nate or Kate, then you encountered by chance a Yo-Kai when you found the watch and put it on your wrist. Of course, your first "Yo-Kai" encounter is the butler, named Whisper. "Whisper will be your companion throughout the game and he will teach you everything about the world of Yo-Kai."

With Whisper, you would learn that all this time, you are living with "Yo-Kai." It is only by wearing the watch that you get to see them around. As stated in the article, "With the ability to see these Yo-kai comes a lot of responsibility, as you are tasked with solving people's problems that are often caused (intentionally or not) by wild Yo-kai."

What makes the gameplay of the "Yo-Kai Watch" from "Pokémon" is that the player gets "to choose for the most part if you want to engage the Yo-kai."

On a different note, Hacked News says that "Yo-Kai Watch" has a phenomenal success in Japan, and like "Pokémon," this new RPG will extend "beyond a single game." In fact, last October, it has launched its anime adaptation in English.
