It was previously reported back in September that there will be no micro transaction for "Need for Speed". Instead, game developer Ghost Games will release a series of free DLC.
Based on the Ghost Games FAQ reported by PlayStation Lifestyle, Ghost Games has claimed, "We currently have no plans for any paid DLC."
Contrary to the rumors that "Need for Speed" will eventually charge for DLC, Creative Director Craig Sullivan has already announce via Vice that there will never be no plans for any paid content and the reason behind is that no one is asking for it.
When asked by Vice about the said "zero micro-transactions" in "Need for Speed", Sullivan gave a very definitive reply. Part of what he has discussed says, "You can never say never, as if we ended up doing DLC for this game for 10 years, I can't know what's happening in 10 years' time. All I can say is, honestly, hand on heart, is there are absolutely no plans to charge for content in this game. We're going to give you everything for free.
"I've seen the plans for what's going to happen over the next few weeks and months, there's nothing in there, by which I mean, we don't even have the ability to charge you in the game. There's no store to speak of.
"Everything we're doing is focusing on listening to what the fans are asking for. They're certainly not saying to us, 'Can you build a load of stuff and charge us for it?' They're not saying that, so we're not doing that."
Lastly he said that everything is going to be free because he believes that is what players deserve.
And speaking of the future for "Need for Speed" Sullivan says that the future releases in the racing game series will have the same traditional elements, which can change, but the narrative style, the cars and customization that the "Need for Speed" has always been knwn for will always be there.
