'Supergirl' Updates: Peter Facinelli Dishes Out Details About the Series, Talks About His Character 'Maxwell Lord'

Last week, Peter Facinelli made his first appearance as the big shot businessman Maxwell Lord in the CBS Series "Supergirl" last week. His character was not at all amused by the city's heroine but Facinelli says it's not a personal attack to Supergirl.

In an interview with E! the actor dishes, "It's all part of his worldview. His ideology is that humanity should save themselves and aliens--good or bad, superheroes or villains--it's just outside interference that we don't need. So everything that he does kind of stems from that ideology."

So who exactly is Maxwell Lord? Peter says he has given the comic book based character an update. "I think in the comic books he's more [Donald] Trump-ish, in this show he's more Elon Musk. "There's different types of billionaires and I think his is more of like George Clooney," he reveals to Examiner at the New York Comic Con.

Careful not to give away too many spoilers, Peter shares, "Maxwell has never been really portrayed before, so it was kind of fun to be able to tackle that and bring my own spin to it, and work with the writers and figure out the best way to tell his story in this version."

One thing viewers would want to watch out for is his sexually charged rivalry with Supergirl's power hungry boss Cat Grant, played by Calista Flockhart. "I think it's kind of a Dangerous Liaisons thing. There's this tension, but it's also sexual tension. There's a power struggle, but they admire and respect each other I think. [They're] adversaries, but in a healthy way, a sexy way," he says.

More than the action packed scenes and the intriguing plot, the show ultimately stands for a meaningful message especially to women. According to Peter who is also a father to 3 daughters, Supergirl and other female-driven movies and series inspire young women. "It's not about the guy always coming in to save the girl," he states.

"Supergirl" airs Mondays at 8 p.m. on CBS.
