A new report about "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt" surfaced on Tuesday, saying that the popular video game will have a movie adaptation. A full-length film of the game is already in the works and is expected to make a debut in theaters in 2017, a report from Latino Post said.
According to Collider, the Sean Daniel Company, producers of "The Mummy" series, confirmed earlier this week that a full-length movie of "The Witcher" series is already in the works. The company also announced that it will collaborate with Platige Films, a Poland-based film company.
"Andrzej Sapkowski's novels are conquering international fantasy book markets and his short story collection, 'The Last Wish', had been placed on the New York Times bestseller list. The hero created by Sapkowski, Geralt the witcher, is a monster hunter with superhuman abilities. He is a creature suspended between two worlds - the human and the magical," Platige said in a press release.
"The Witcher saga is already being compared to the hugely popular 'Game of Thrones'. The film will be an introduction to the Witcher's world and is planned to be the beginning of a series. Thania St. John, an experienced Hollywood scriptwriter, author of such television productions as 'Grimm', 'Chicago Fire' and 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer', is working on the script as well as on its film and television continuation," Platige continued.
Slashfilm said that the "The Witcher 3" series "has a huge scope, complex characters, and the kind of lore so fascinating you want to explore every nook and cranny to learn more. The world of The Witcher is full of monsters and action and violence and intrigue and sex and grizzled warriors trudging through harsh landscapes."
Meanwhile, Polish game developer CD Projekt Red reportedly has no involvement in the upcoming film. The company's latest video game, "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt," is raking millions already as six million copies of the game have been sold worldwide.
