Sony Discusses PlayStation VR and Future Beyond Gaming

Studios President of SCE Worldwide Shuhei Yoshida has been obviously very excited about PlayStation VR and its future.

According to IGN, Yoshida has discussed more on the VR's game releases in 2016 during the 2015 Paris Game Week.

"We are just so excited - it is like we have a new toy to play with. Game development is also a business but when we worked on virtual reality, we just enjoyed it; it was so fun. From a platform developer standpoint, we have a responsibility to show what virtual reality can do," Yoshida told IGN.

"We've been showing what it (virtual reality) can do at shows through games such as Deep, or London Heist and the Playroom - the many aspects of virtual reality," he added.

Based on the way he talks about PlayStation VR, one can conclude that Sony envisions it to be more than just a gaming console in the future.

"Virtual Reality game development at this moment is like how video game development was like during the early PS1 days," Yoshida said, speaking about the potential of VR besides video gaming.

Studios President of SCE Worldwide emphasized that, "Film companies are finding the use of VR tech being very useful and convenient to promote their movies. They (the filmmakers) want to make the viewers part of their story - just like how you would feel when playing London Heist."

"When the film company people and those who make TV shows saw the London Heist, they were so excited and started talking about how they can combine their expertise with the VR technology to create new storytelling experience. This too will launch soon. Hopefully next year!"

In another news, it was mentioned that the reason why Sony has no major titles for the PlayStation Vita is that they want to shift full focus on PS4 and VR. Based on Yoshida's enthusiasm on VR, Sony is indeed giving 100 percent attention to the upcoming console.
