A 1909 Former San Francisco Firehouse is For Sale for a Precious Price of $6.9M

The former Firehouse at Number 44 in San Francisco is looking for a buyer who can afford to spend $6.9 million. The 6,045-square-foot estate has four bedrooms and comes with plenty of history to spare.

According to Realtor, the 1909 Firehouse for Engine Company Number 44 was an original shelter of cavalry men and horses. In 1959, artists Mark Adams and Beth Van Housen purchased the property. Since then, it has been renovated and remodeled many times. However, there are still plenty of vintage things that still remain.

Listing agent Carrie Goodman says about the property, "I love the combination of old and new." Inside this historic façade are timeless details that include original Douglas fir floors, a rusty fire hydrant, zinc doors, spiral staircase, fire bells, and even a brass pole for midnight emergencies.

A nice feature of the house is the atrium, a four-storey angular staircase built from glass and reclaimed wood. "The house has an art quality to it," says listing agent Goodman. The firehouse is definitely a great house for a collector.

Although the firehouse was built about over a century ago, there's nothing old-fashioned about it. "It has a very architectural and modern element," says Goodman. The concrete walls of the house collide with stark white walls, heightening the home's drama. The home also features a heated garden room that sits adjacent to the backyard.

Fox News said that Firehouse Number 44 is a perfect playground for a tech entrepreneur and also where children will find it equally enchanting. "Kids love the house," says Goodman. "It's the best hide-and-seek house ever. The ideal buyer is either a free-spirited, diverse family or a young entrepreneur who has a unique sense of style and doesn't want something cookie-cutter."

The home is perfect for entertainers as it is beautifully located in the heart of the desirable Noe Valley neighborhood. The firehouse has a storage place where visitors can store their belongings in the lockers, original to the building.
