Season 4 of 'Elementary' will be all about fathers, dads, pops, whatever you call them. Things are getting interesting as fans learn more about the fathers of their heroes in the series.
The synopsis teases, ""Morland offers to use his influence to have Sherlock and Joan reinstated as consultants to the NYPD, but Sherlock questions his father's motive. Meanwhile, Watson helps the FBI investigate a triple homicide at a top secret research lab."
Thursday's season premiere introduced Morland (John Noble), the father of Sherlock Holmes (Jonny Lee Miller). While viewers are in the introductory phase with this new character, the executive producer of the series has revealed that the stepfather of Joan Watson (Lucy Liu) will be introduced in the series, as well.
"A few episodes in the season we're going to meet her stepfather and discover they [too] have a pretty complicated relationship. It's a theme we will hit pretty hard over the first half of the season," TV Guide quoted Doherty saying.
"We want to explore family this year. So we're looking to take the opportunity to explore Joan's family a little as well," stated Doherty as posted on Zap2It.
It can be recalled that Mary (Freda Foh Shen), mother of Watson, has appeared in two episodes of the series. Can fans expect for Holmes' mom to be introduced in the series anytime soon?
Doherty also mentioned in a recent conference call with reporters that there has been several discussions as to the introduction of Holmes' mother in the series. However, he kept his mouth shut as to whether fans can expect to watch her on the current season or the next.
DesignNTrend posted that whether Holmes' mom will be introduced or not in the current season, one thing is sure. Fans will be able to witness how close (or not) Holmes is with her mother dearest.
"I feel like we have an obligation at some point this season to flesh out that story and explain why she is not featured on the show alongside Mr. Holmes," Doherty said during the conference call. "I think that would be a matter of ... I can't say a matter of time [laughs] ... it's a story we need to tell. We need to find the right moment. I think mom is a big reason why Sherlock and his father have struggled to the degree that they have, struggled as father and son."
"Elementary" season 4, episode 2, "Evidence of Things Not Seen," airs on Thursday, Nov. 12, at 10 p.m. on CBS.
