'Big Bang Theory' Spoilers: The Return of Bob Newhart on Dec. 17th Episode to Help Sheldon Bring Together His Feelings

Sheldon Cooper has some choices to make next month in 'Big Bang Theory,' which will require the use of the Force. Bob Newhart will return for the role of Arthur Jeffries on the Dec. 17th episode of the CBS primetime show. The character of Newhart will emerge again to aid Sheldon to organize his feelings to be able to make an essential decision.

According to TV Line, this is the fourth trip of Newhart to 'Big Bang Theory.' His first appearance was when he played Arthur in Season 6, and then twice more in Season 7. Newhart's first episode of the series in 2013, entitled "The Proton Resurgence," gained the comedian's first-ever Primetime Emmy Award.

The appearance of Newhart as a Jedi spirit comes on the day before the national theatrical release of 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens.'

TV Guide says Arthur Jeffries, famously known as Professor Proton, will be played by Bob Newhart when he will resume his role in next month's episode of the Big Bang Theory. Sheldon (played by Jim Parsons), will be visited by the late Professor Proton in his dreams as a Jedi, to give advice about a very important decision to make.

Season 7's "The Proton Transmogrification," is the last appearance of Newhart in which Arthur dies and appears in Sheldon's dream as Obi-Wan.

Newhart, now at age 86, won his first-ever Emmy Award for the show in 2013.

It can be recalled that the last appearance of Bob's role as Arthur Jeffries was in 'Big Bang Theory: Season 7.' It was the scene when Sheldon found out that his childhood hero had died. During the night, Sheldon had a dream and Arthur appeared before him wearing a Jedi wardrobe and acted as a guiding strength, encouraging the wary and emotionally unstable character, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

During one of the interviews, Mayim Bialik has said that Shamy will be on hold through much of the Fall. "We definitely deal with the relationship head on for the first five episodes," Bialik said, noting that she is not sure where Sheldon and Amy are. "Jim Parsons and I are still curious where it's going to go," he added.

'Big Bang Theory' broadcasts every Thursday at 8pm on the CBS channel.
