Valentine's Day and no date? Top 10 bachelor cities

Spending Valentine's Day alone? Zillow's got your back with a Valentine's Day index ranking the U.S. cities with the largest number of bachelors and bachelorettes.

The site explored several cities before preparing the index, with the number one focus being areas with the largest number of singles with an overall higher income. It also took into account the number of restaurants and bars in the area, the local social scene and - of course - housing affordability.

Tech capital San Francisco took the top spot, proving that geeks are where it's at this year. With more than half of the city's population comprised of bachelors and bachelorettes, you'll have more than a few to pick from when choosing your valentine. While the rents are comparatively high in the area, the singles here earn about 65 percent more compared to the national average, the report says.

Zillow's Valentine's Day Index says that all this and a vivacious social life with a higher disposable income make San Francisco the ideal location for finding your perfect date this Valentine' Day.

Not a California native? Hold off on booking your flight, cuz Zillow has done a commendable job ranking a wide range of metropolises with populations greater than 750,000.

While metros in all parts of the country showed promise as potential dating locales, the 10 cities offering the best opportunities for love also included Las Vegas (2), Los Angeles (3), Boston (4), Hartford (5), Austin (6), Seattle (7), Baltimore (8), Richmond (9) and Philadelphia (10).

This index is based on data obtained from the 2012 American Community Survey and related to the number of singles and their average income. Zillow has worked out the income after subtracting the rent paid by these singles from their average income following the Zillow's Rent Index methodology.
