Holly Hunter lists her posh New York City apartment for $8.7 million

Holly Hunter, the Oscar-winning actress known for her roles in "The Piano" and "The Incredibles," listed her posh apartment in New York for $8.7 million over the weekend.

Hunter purchased the property from fellow actress Julia Roberts for $4.1 million in 2005.

The property is spread over approximately 3,000 square feet and includes four bedrooms, three bathrooms, a spacious living room, a study, two offices and a wood-burning fireplace. A report in RealEstalker.com says the property features a wide range of innovative architectural detailing, such as coved ceilings and wonderfully preserved unique woodwork. It also boasts paneling, elaborate molding and touches of stained glass.

Built in 1905, this apartment located on Manhattan's coveted Fifth Avenue was constructed in the Beaux Arts style. The entrance hall of this luxurious dwelling leads to a library with built-in book shelves. French doors connect the living room and dining room, which is directly accessible from the state-of-the-art kitchen equipped with only the best appliances.

The floor plan of this posh residence also includes a maid's room adjacent to a Jack 'n' Jill bathroom and a master suite with a walk-in closet and study.

The report suggests Hunter is selling off the property in order to acquire a larger home with space for her school-going twin children.

Besides her New York apartment, Hunter owns another 34 acres of undeveloped land next to a property owned by her family in Conyers, Ga., where she was born and raised.

The 55-year-old actress made her big screen debut in "The Burning," a horror movie made in 1981. She then moved to Los Angeles and appeared in several television and Hollywood movies. The versatile actor was married to cinematographer Janusz Kamiński from 1995 to 2001. Since her divorce, Hunter has been in a relationship with the British actor Gordon MacDonald.
