Shonda Rhimes buys new Los Angeles estate for $8.8 million

Shonda Rhimes, the head writer for "Grey's Anatomy," "Scandal" and "Private Practice," has acquired a two-story property in the Hancock Park area of Los Angeles for $8.8 million.

According to Trulia Blog, the property changed hands Feb. 4.

Earlier, the compound belonged to actress Patricia Heaton of "Everybody Loves Raymond" fame, who sold it for $8 million in May 2013. After selling the LA property, Heaton bought a posh apartment in the Toluca Lake neighborhood in California for $5.4 million. The LA property returned to the market in November 2013 for $8.99, although the price was later reduced by a few thousand.

Rhimes' new property is spread over 8,398 square feet and is comprised of six bedrooms, six bathrooms and two offices. Designed by the famous architect Elmer Grey, this Italian-style gated estate is a spacious home equipped with an upstairs playroom - perfect for Rhimes, a successful producer, and her three young daughters.

The ground floor has both a living and dining room, as well as an elegant library, which no doubt will come in useful as Rhimes plots the upcoming batch of plot twists her shows are known for. It also features a family wing with a view of the surrounding grounds, and a gourmet kitchen.

The compound includes a large swimming pool, a guest room and a screening room above the garage, which can accommodate four cars.

In addition to the new home, Rhimes is the owner of two other properties in Los Angeles. The first is a 8,292-square-foot, six-bedroom and nine-bathroom home, which she purchased in March 2010 for $5.6 million. The second house, which she acquired in July 2007 for $1.66 million, is spread over 4,995 square feet and includes six bedrooms and four bathrooms.
