'General Hospital' News: Executive Producer Nathan Varni Dishes About Jason Morgan's Reveal And Dr. Patrick Drake's Recast

"General Hospital" Executive Producer Nathan Varni speaks with Party Wills Online regarding the latest updates on ABC's popular daytime drama show.

One of the most interesting parts of the interview was Hannah Carpenter's question about Jason's revelation, where Varni was asked on why it took so long for the big reveal to happen. It took a year to reveal that Jake Doe is actually Jason Morgan.

Varni shared that when the time the new writers, Shelly and Jean, joined the show they were able to identify which part of the storylines are working and not, and which are also relevant for the future of the story.

Nathan said that Ron's idea was brilliant given that they will be recasting the role. With that being said "the idea of the accident and giving Jason a new face and taking away his memories was intriguing and helped us get back into telling a Jason story."

Varni also discussed that Liz falling in love with Jake and not Jason was an interesting move, considering that they both had their "connections" already. Looking forward to what will happen and how things will unfold is definitely interesting for the fans.

However, the down part was that the "misfired was dragging the story out way too long and we as a collective team are all responsible for letting it drag on too long."

Varni added that "our current writers have a clear vision and journey for the story which I think has really jumped the story in the past month and even re-energized the actors on set. Shelly and Jean's take on the upcoming story is one that I find interesting and will really push the actors to bring their 'A' game to their roles."

Michael Fairman reports that Varni also revealed that as of the moment there are no plans to recast Dr. Patrick Drake. He said, "I'm sure our audiences know we need to beef up our GH doctor staff but that is long term and we are still in the planning stages for that as we discuss 2016 episodes."

Varni explained that "when Jean & Shelly started they said they would love to tell more hospital stories and I completely agree with their desire to do that and hoping we can build many hospital stories in 2016 and beyond."

According to Soap Opera Spy, it is a rare trait for an executive producer to admit some failures when it talks about the writing department. And for Varni to grant such interview and admit some mistakes is a good move for fans to understand more of what really happened.

As Varni expressed, with his new set of writers, he is more confident that "General Hospital's" storylines will be better for the future.
