$425 million winning lottery ticket sold in Californian gas station

The winning ticket of the $425 million Powerball lottery, one of the largest lotteries in the history of the United States, was sold at the Dixon Landing Road Chevron station in Milpitas, Calif., according to several news reports.

The winning numbers drawn Wednesday night were: 1, 17, 35, 49, 54 and a Powerball of 34. No details of who won the lottery ticket are available as of now, but the gas station will receive $1 million for selling the winning ticket, reports the Chicago Tribune.

Rajwinder Singh, an employee at the Chevron store, said he was probably the person who sold the winning ticket.

"I've been here working from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. I hope I'll find out soon," Singh told The Associated Press.

Gurdharam Sohel, another employee at the Chevron gas station, said he was "very excited" about the news. Apparently, they didn't believe it when they got the call.

"When we got the call, we thought it was a fake number. We didn't believe it was real until the media came," Sohel told Mercury News.

The prize is the fourth-largest for Powerball, with the winner set to receive $227.8 million if he or she decides to claim the lottery in a lump sum. The biggest Powerball lottery winner to date took away $590 million before taxes in May 2013.

In August 2013, three winning tickets hit a Powerball Jackpot worth $448 million, one of which was held by a group of 16 co-workers. However, the largest ever lottery prize won in the United States was a $656 million Mega Millions jackpot shared by three tickets sold in Maryland, Illinois and Kansas.

Powerball is played in 43 states, including the Virgin Island of the United States. The odds of getting all the six numbers right in a game are 1 in 175 million.
