Microsoft Surface Book Not as Attractive as Microsoft Claims It To Be In Terms of Specs Versus Price

Many people think that the price of Microsoft's Surface Book is an over kill. A recent report suggests that Apple's MacBook Pro is the better device in terms of price-to-specs relationship.

According to PC Magazine, the Surface Book is just way too expensive. Its lowest variant costs $1,499 with an i5 processor and 8GB of RAM. For those who want the version with 16GB and an i7 CPU, they should be willing to spend possibly more than twice. While both the MacBook Pro and the Surface Book don't come cheap, it is believed that Microsoft has a better chance of marketing the Surface Book successfully if it was cheaper. But since it was also reported that the base model of the Surface Book costs $1,000 it can't be expected to sell below that amount.

Other manufacturers are offering their laptops with nearly the same specs at a much lesser price than the Surface Book's lowest version.

Microsoft is also being criticized for claiming that its new laptop is two times more powerful in specs than the 13-inch MacBook Pro. Many analysts argue that such claim is false. According to Tech Insider, the improved performance of the Surface Book may be attributed to its improved and dedicated graphics card and not because it has taken effort to improve its CPU the way Apple did with the new MacBook Pro.

Another downside with the latest Surface Book pro is the fact that for a version with better graphics card and a bumped dedicated GPU, you would have to end up spending at least $1,899. Starting at $1299, you can a get the MacBook Pro 13‑inch with 3.1GHz dual‑core Intel Core i7 processor and it already comes with 1TB flash storage.

Microsoft Surface Book was introduced on Oct. 6 at a media event in New York.
