Lyor Cohen, former CEO of Warner Music Group, acquires New York City townhouse for $11.4 million

Lyor Cohen, former Warner Music Group CEO, has acquired a 4,440-square-foot West Village townhouse in New York City for $11.4 million.

Last year, Cohen rented the property from Chipotle founder and co-CEO Steve Ells and has been squatting there ever since, says The Real Estalker.

Built in 1858 in the red-brick Greek Revival style, the townhouse is located in a relatively tranquil, tree-lined street, and boasts a thoroughly modern façade complete with floor-to-ceiling glass windows.

The property offers five complete floors of luxurious living space and a semi-furnished basement. It is comprised of four bedrooms, three full and two half bathrooms, a garden floor, four wood-burning fireplaces and a wine cellar.

The garden floor includes a well kept kitchen facing the street with a dining room done up like a den behind it. The dining space opens to a two-level garden that looks over a pool while the third floor contains the master suite, an additional bedroom with a dressing area, a walk-in closet and an attached bathroom.

On the fourth floor, there are three guest bedrooms. While the largest one is attached to a spacious bathroom, the other two bedrooms have half bathrooms each. The penthouse of the property includes a glass pavilion and a fireplace and leads to two terraces planted with saplings. The larger of the two offers a view of the Empire State Building, while the second is covered and south-facing, offering a view of the Freedom Tower, America's tallest building.

Property records show that Adam Gordon, a New York City developer, purchased the townhouse for just $3 million in 2004. He revamped the townhouse completely with the help of renowned architect Steven Harris, not only restoring the original front, but the rear façade as well using a transparent four-story glass wall.

Gordon listed the house for sale for $15 million in May 2006, and following price readjustments sold it to Ells for $13,425,000 in 2008.

Although Ells did not live in this house, he leased the townhouse to Cohen for an undisclosed sum. Last year, he listed the property for $13,995,000, eventually selling it to the music mogul.
