Samsung Galaxy S5 unveiled at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona

Samsung pulled back the curtains from the much-anticipated Galaxy S5 smartphone during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

According to Samsung European executive Jean-Daniel Ayme, the phone's battery will last for up to 10 hours of Web browsing and 12 hours of video playback.

Ayme said the Galaxy S5 will also feel a lot better, thanks to its perforated back panel that makes the smartphone easy to handle. Color options include blue, gold, white and black.

The Galaxy S5 also boasts a higher degree of digital and physical security. Samsung President J.K. Shin, who also took to the stage, said the phone will have the upgraded version of the Samsung Knox security system.

All phones will work on LTE networks.

The Galaxy S5 houses a 2.5 GHz quad-core processor, runs Android's most recent OS Kitkat and features a heart rate sensor. It has either 16B or 32B of storage and a 64GB microSD for extended storage.

The S5 will be available worldwide in April.

Meanwhile, Shin announced that more than 200 million Galaxy smartphones have been sold to date.

And just like that, the Samsung Galaxy S5 is officially launched and confirmed - a smartphone featuring a 5.1-inch screen, 16 MP camera, fingerprint scanner and a waterproof body.

But stay tuned - the latest updates of the Samsung Galaxy S5 are still ongoing at the Barcelona convention.
