Prometheus Sequel Has Been Renamed to 'Alien: Covenant' from 'Alien: Paradise Lost'

Recently, it was reported that "Prometheus 2" will begin filming in January 2016 and director Ridley Scott has reportedly said he wants to shoot the sci-fi movie in Australia. But the sequel to the 2012 Prometheus won't have the same title and a number two.

Back in September when the sequel to "Prometheus" was confirmed, Scott revealed that that sequel will be titled "Alien: Paradise Lost." According to Movies Hey U Guys, Ridley has explained in an interview, "Actually, it's going to be called Alien: Paradise Lost, so Prometheus 2 isn't what it's really going to be. You know the poem? The poem's a book, Paradise Lost! It sounds intellectual, but there's a similarity to it, and that's where it stops."

The director was referring to "Paradise Lost" and epic poem by John Milton detailing Lucifer's conflict with God.

Now that the fans are assured that "Prometheus 2" will happen under the name "Alien: Paradise Lost" the sci-fi film is once again given another name. According to IndieWire, Director Ridley Scott referred to "Alien: Paradise Lost" as "Alien: Covenant" during an interview at the AFI Film Festival. Scott said, "I've got no plan. I go from pillar to post randomly."

Then, he moved on to explaining how his other film "The Martian" distracted him, "I was going to be doing what will be called Alien: Covenant, which starts shooting next February, and we were struggling then with the screenplay there and then there was a phone call, somebody saying, 'Listen, we've got this thing which is completely written called 'Martian,' and I said, 'Huh.' And I sped read it in an hour and by mid-afternoon, I talked to Fox and said, 'I need to talk to 'Drew [Goddard]..."

What fans now know so far about "Prometheus 2" is that when it starts filming in February 2016, not January as previously reported, it will go by the name "Alien: Covenant." But whatever name they want to call it, fans surely hope the target date of release for this movie won't be as changeable as its name and that it would still be on May 30, 2017.
