Mobile World Congress 2014: Samsung debuts Gear Fit, a fitness-friendly wearable

Samsung introduced not one, but three wearables at this year's Mobile World Congress - smartwatches Samsung Gear 2, Gear 2 Neo and Gear Fit.

With Gear Fit, Samsung has delivered a stylish, super light and fitness-focused wearable especially designed for those who love the outdoors.

Main Features

Samsung Gear Fit is a tiny device attached to a rubber strap. The strap is detachable and can be swapped out for other designs. This feature is a good one for a fitness product as it not only allows users to customize it, but replace it for a fresh one when it becomes sweaty.

The device highlights Bluetooth 4.0 LE and is IP67, meaning it is largely resistant to water and dust. On its underside is a heart sensor that can be active for long stretches at a time. It also boasts an activity tracker for all your gyroscopic and pedometric needs and coaching options on personal fitness.

Specs

Gear Fit weighs 27 grams and is 23.4 mm x 57.4 mm x 11.95mm in dimension. The battery will last three to four days with typical usage, and five days with low usage. It delivers notifications for emails, calls, SMS, alarms and S-Planner. According to its manufacturer, the Gear Fit platform is open to notifications from third party apps as well.

Design

For a fitness wearable, Samsung Gear Fit is a solid device. It has a curved thin design that blends and bends with your wrist perfectly. That curve has a stunning 1.84-inch screen that is Super AMOLED. The resolution of the colorful screen is 432 x 128 and the layout as well as wallpapers offers a variety of styles for greater customization. Sync the Gear Fit to your smartphone, and you can crop images or customize a wallpaper.

When worn, Gear Fit sits comfortably against your wrist, allowing for clear contact to monitor your heart rate.

Gear Fit settings can be controlled with taps and swipes. Its widescreen style makes it possible for you to add information to the default view beside the watch mode, such as the next calendar appointment or a step counter.
