Shortly after a mod that adds the Jersey of Boston Red Sox hitter David "Big Papi" Ortiz to the action video game "Fallout 4" was released, MLB wants it out.
According to The Boston Globe, the mode creator Richie Branson from Texas tried to explain his reason for adding "Big Papi's" jersey but Major League Baseball or MLB claims that the mod is a breach to its proprietary rights.
Moreover, Branson felt like he needed to add Red Sox Jersey in addition to Boston's iconic physical pieces that are already in the game to make the game feel more authentic. He feels the Boston Red Sox was the only thing that was missing. As to why he chose David Ortiz, Branson said "Ortiz is a heavy hitter, man. He's big, he's massive, so I figured he'd be the right one to survive the apocalypse."
He has also told Steve Annear of The Boston Globe, "Basically, I think it was the only thing missing from the game. You've got Fenway Park, the Green Monster, and all of Boston, but there weren't any Red Sox jerseys."
Still, the MLB won't budge. An MLB spokesperson told The Boston Globe, "The use of these marks is an infringement of our rights. We plan to enforce those rights."
Branson has mentioned that he wanted to add more Boston Red Sox players or jerseys but now that everyone is aware that the presence of David Ortiz in the game did not make MLB happy, Branson might have to think of something else to add.
According to IGN, in "Fallout 4," Diamond City is what has emerged from the remains of what used to be a Fenway Park, the home of the Boston Red Sox since 1912. That is just one of the many things Boston in "Fallout 4" since the game is set in post-apocalyptic Boston. The other iconic locations include the Boston Public Library, Boston Common and Hatch Memorial Shell.
