Real Estate Trend: Log Cabins Are Becoming The Latest 'Must Haves' For The Rich And Famous

What used to be the humble abodes of lumberjacks and mountain men are now becoming a statement by the elite and wealthy, the Realty Times reports. Log cabins were once associated with individuals who prefer to be in tune with the wild outdoors and live at the edge of the frontier.

Today, these massive homes made of the finest timber are the preferred hideaways of the rich and famous who want to escape from the hustle and bustle of the city or spend a vacation where there is peace and quiet.

Just last month, the world's largest log cabin went up for sale for $40 million. According to the Daily Mail, the Granot Loma features a main log structure that has 23 bedrooms and 13 bathrooms, 12 other separate buildings, and a farm that at one time milked 200 cows. The whole 5,000-acre estate sits on the shores of Lake Superior in Marquette, Michigan. Built in 1919, the Granot Loma owners then tapped 400 Scandinavian workers to finish the luxurious log structure.

Rivaling the Granot Loma is the Timber Moose Lodge of Timber Lakes in Utah. According to its official website, Timber Moose claims to be the largest private log cabin in the country, boasting over 26,000 square feet of living space and in an estate comprised of 12 private acres in the Utah mountains.

Timber Moose Lodge has 13 bedrooms, 16 bathrooms, a large indoor swimming pool, a sauna, and a large grand ballroom that can seat 96 people in banquet or presentation seating. The property also enjoyed significant TV exposure on  National Geographic Channel's "Cabin Fever."

Texas' football star JJ Watt is just one of the few celebrities who owns luxurious log cabins in the wild, which he says he uses for vacation. The Wisconsin log cabin may not be as grand as the ones mentioned above, but the $800,000 property is anything but low-key.

Chron.com shares that Watt's 4,500 square feet timber abode is nestled in a property that is composed of 35 acres of land and has its own elevator.

Asked why he chose to purchase such a home, the Texan's defensive end replied that the peace and quite that comes with the house is one of the huge factors.

"It's really minimalistic," Watt said. "The only thing I have to focus on is training and that's the way I like it. There's no frills, there's nothing to distract you up here."
