Celebrity Homes for Sale: Julia Child Sells French Home

French culinary queen Julia Child is selling her home located at Provencal village, Plascassier in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region of southeastern France for $862,500. Child's real estate property called "La Pitchoune" was built by the culinary star and her husband, a report from The Real Deal said.

The residence in Provençal was nicknamed "La Peetch" and sits on a half-acre property which is now being sold for the very first time. The 1,614-square-foot house features Child's kitchen.

Domain reports that Child's French-inspired home is actually "one of the most coveted food kitchens in the world."

"The 1963-built home features three bedrooms, with an updated suite bathrooms, a separate studio building with another bedroom, kitchenette and bathroom and 2000 square metres of landscaped grounds. A pool area, terrace and carport are also noted," the report said.

Future homeowners will be amazed by the elegant design of Child's residence. The home is well-decorated and covered with peg boards. "Black outlines of the tools painted on the walls are still visible and it comes with 'original equipment' including quaint, rustic terracotta floor tiles and a bright green splashback."

Child's kitchen was actually designed by her husband Paul and it was patterned after their home in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The said kitchen is now being exhibited at Smithsonian Institution.

"In the late '90s, Alex purchased the estate for approximately $400,000, but with her cooking school now closed, she is ready to part with the piece of culinary history. And she's looking to turn a hefty profit, with the home listed for more than double what she paid at roughly $880,000, the NYT reports. Still a bargain for France and Child fans alike," Elle Décor reports.
