"The Vampire Diaries" season 7 may just be the final season for the TV series following the absolute confirmation of Nina Dobrev's exit from the show.
Dobrev's chraracter Elena's comeback to the TVD storyline had been left hanging in the air. Ian Somerhalder and other cast members would always say that the character could be written back. However, after the news broke that the 26-year-old actress bagged a big role in the film version of "Baywatch," the fate of the show has been sealed.
Julie Plec, the creator of "The Vampire Diaries," expressed doubts of having a season 8, Hypable reported. According to her, the flash forwards in season 7 have become such a big deviation from the original plotline all because of Elena's exit. It is undeniable that Elena is the main character of the story, and without the lead, things could easily spiral down.
Meanwhile, according to Variety, Somerhalder admitted how different the show has become since her ex-girlfriend left. "What we've just started shooting is such a departure (from what is expected of the show)," the actor confessed. It has been frequently rumored that the "Lost" actor kept convincing her former ladylove to come back to the show, but Dobrev seemed to be stern with her decision.
In an Instagram post she shared while the show was wrapping its season 6, the Bulgarian Canadian actress reiterated that during the start of the series, she said she would only go as far as six seasons and would leave after that. Hence, after the 2014-15 season ran, the "Final Girls" actress did just that and said goodbye to the hit supernatural drama.
Dobrev's movie career has not really taken off after departing TVD. However, that luck seemed to change as she is confirmed to star in "Baywatch" alongside Zac Efron, Dwayne Johnson, and Ashley Benson.
