Catherine Martin took away Oscars for best costume and set design for her work in the movie "The Great Gatsby," making her the most decorated Australian in the business.
The record was previously set by Australian Orry-Kelly, who had three Oscars to his credit for "Some Like it Hot," "Les Girls" and "An American in Paris." Following the 86th Academy Awards, Martin now has four Oscars to her name, having received two for Moulin Rouge in 2002.
Martin shared one of the awards with set decorator Beverley Dunn, who acknowledged the technicians and the crew for their success. Martin thanked her husband director Baz Luhrmann, mentioning that the award was "wonderful validation" for the team of "The Great Gatsby," and gave a shout out to her children Lilly and William.

For the movie, Martin oversaw 42 separate locations in and around Sydney. It took the set designing team about 14 weeks to do up the sets in the chosen locations. The Gatsby Mansion, the library, the entrance hall, the ballroom, the terrace and even the master bedroom were all designed to achieve the authenticity of the period.
"Designs for the residence were based on the great early-20th-century houses of Long Island's North Shore-places like Oheka Castle, La Selva, and Beacon Towers. Looking at images of Beacon Towers, there's something that gives it the feel of the Disneyland castle, and Baz referenced that - the idea that Gatsby was building a fantasy," Martin told the Architectural Digest.
The 86th Academy Awards were held at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles. Hosted by Ellen DeGeneres, the ceremony was a celebrity-studded show full of "pizza passing" and selfie taking. Critics are calling DeGeneres' hosting job the best in the past four years.
