Liam Neeson's news in 2015 triggered speculations that he was in a bad state of health. The "Taken" actor was spotted looking frail since July, and his fans had become worried about the actor. However, his most recent interview revealed that his flimsy body frame has something to do with his upcoming movie, "Silence."
In an interview at the Los Cabos Film Festival in Mexico over the weekend, the 63-year-old actor explained the real reason for his mysterious weight loss. Neeson claimed that his role as Father Cristóvão Ferreira for Martin Scorsese's new film required him to shed off about 10 kilograms to fit into the character, according to Us Weekly.
"Martin wanted us all to look a bit more gaunt, which [costars Adam Driver and Andrew Garfield] did as well," Neeson said of his sudden weight loss that sparked controversies that he was ill. "Adam went to the extreme. He's an ex-marine and when he's given an order, he follows it through. He was like something out of Auschwitz."
Neeson's role could be compared with the role portrayed by versatile actor Robert De Niro, who lost nearly 30 kilograms for the movie, "Raging Bull." Meanwhile, "Silence" follows the story of Jesuit missionaries in the 17th century, who went to Japan to search for their mentor and preach their teachings, News.com.Au reports. It is expected to hit the theaters in 2016.
Meanwhile, as mentioned by Neeson, Garfield, who filmed in Taiwan for many months, also lost weight to portray his role in the movie. The "Spider-Man" actor weighed 40 pounds less when he filmed for the movie.
