Charlie Sheen's Kids Were Told Of His HIV Status -- Gently

When Charlie Sheen disclosed to the world on Tuesday morning about his HIV diagnosis, his kids were already told the news on Monday.

According to an article on RadarOnline, Sheen's younger kids -- Lola, 10, and Sam, 11, his daughters with ex-wife Denise Richards; and twin sons with Brooke Mueller, Bob and Max, 6 -- learned about their father's HIV status on Monday afternoon. The article stated the children were given the news in a "delicate manner".

The "Anger Management" star told the media he didn't tell his children about his disease before the interview because he knew that they are still young and could not understand the situation.

His eldest daughter, Cassandra Estevez, 30, however, has already been informed beforehand.

Denise informed her daughters after she picked them up from school in Malibu that their dad was on the news again, which is really not new to the kids. However, when she disclosed their dad is sick, she immediately reassured them he is not dying.

"That was the most important thing for them to understand," said the source mentioned on the RadarOnline article. The source further stated that "Denise answered any questions the girls had."

In Mueller's case, however, with the twins being too young to understand what HIV is all about, she kept the explanation quite simple. "She told the kids about it after they returned home from school. Since they are younger, Brooke just kept it very simple. She said Daddy is sick, but if he takes his medication, he will be okay."

"The most important thing for the kids to know is that they are loved and safe," the source stated.

Both Richards and Mueller and their kids were all tested negative for HIV.
