Floyd Mayweather and Ronda Rousey have had rounds of mutual bashing in the past. But after the MMA fighter's shocking defeat last weekend, the pound-for-pound boxer actually defended Rousey amidst social media bashing.
The boxing champ released a statement to Fighthype on Monday to clarify rumors that he asked his pal and hip-hop artist 50 Cent to post a photo to mock the female UFC fighter, after her loss to Holly Holm. The picture allegedly showed a scene from 'Rocky IV' photoshopped with Rousey's face after she had been knocked out by her opponent.
Floyd said, "I haven't really spoke to anyone about the Ronda Rousey situation, just to set the record straight. I don't have anything against MMA fighters. It's just like boxing; you win some, you lose some. A true champion can take a loss and bounce back."
The boxer emphasized that it's not cool for people to troll on her through social media. "Certain things you have to learn. People will love you on Friday and then Sunday morning, it's nothing but negative comments and people making jokes and people making fun about you, which I don't think is cool," he added.
While the two have given more than unfriendly comments about each other over the years, Mayweather actually had nothing but good words for the Ronda now that she had her first loss as a professional fighter. He expressed that he believes Rousey is a very strong person but people should also consider her feelings. He also said that everything is a learning experience and that in time, the former MMA Bantam weight champ would recover from the defeat and emerge again in the world of mixed martial arts.
'Rowdy' has been bashed by thousands of netizens following her loss last weekend. Presidential candidate Donald Trump and singer Lady Gaga were among the celebrities who pounded Ronda with spite.
