Fast And Furious 8, 9, 10 In The Works; Prequels, Spinoffs Being Planned -- Vin Diesel

The "Fast and Furious" franchise is going to get bigger with sequels, prequels and spinoffs being planned, producer and star Vin Diesel revealed.

An article on Independent.Co.Uk stated that Universal Pictures Chairman Donna Langley has confirmed the studio's plans to expand the Fast and Furious franchise.

In the meantime, however, their focus would remain on creating three more "Fast and Furious" sequels, which, according to Diesel and Universal brass, will be different in tone from the adventures that preceded them. F. Gary Gray, the director of "Straight Outta Compton", was brought in by Universal to "guide the eighth film in the series", an article on Variety stated.

The Fast and Furious, which is on its seventh installment, is considered as one of the longest-running film franchise and is Universal's most lucrative brand right now. It comes as no surprise that they will try to keep the cash flowing.

The franchise is known for the gravity-defying car races in all its films, but this time, the studio wants to shift the storyline in the next film. "We have a director who is going to bring the darkness out and bring out the character," Diesel said on Variety.

According to Jeff Shell, chairman of Universal Filmed Entertainment Group, they want to focus on the story in the next sequels. "You can't keep having every movie have bigger and bigger stunts forever and ever and ever... Eventually you have to really focus on the story. We'll still have big stunts but bringing in this amazing storyteller is going to be great."

The Fast and Furious 8 is slated for release on April 14, 2017.
