"Outlander" Season 2 is in full steam with its production, and producers have recently added an important character to its cast lineup. Starz confirmed that Lord John William Grey will be in season 2, but it's not what fans are expecting.
Starz announced on Twitter that it has just cast 16-year-old Oscar Kennedy to play the young Lord Grey.
In "Dragonfly in Amber," the second of Diana Gabaldon's "Outlander" series, Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) encounters a young Lord Grey, who assumes that Claire (Caitriona Balfe) is his captive and will try to "save" her. They will later meet years after, when Lord Grey has become the dashing British soldier fans have come to love.
According to CinemaBlend, it's the adult version of Lord Grey that fans of the show are expecting to see. The character is so popular that Gabaldon has even written an entire series of novels based on him. However, the character's initial encounter with Jamie must be integral to the plot that producers have decided to introduce the character's younger version first.
Kennedy has previously played Edward in "Hunted." He was also seen in "The White Queen" and "Great Expectations."
Meanwhile, Starz also announced via Facebook that Clive Russell will also be joining season 2 as Lord Lovat, Jamie's "manipulative" grandfather, who is also known as "The Old Fox."
Russell is a veteran Hollywood actor who has starred in blockbuster movies such as "Sherlock Holmes" and "Thor: The Dark World." The actor is also part of another hit TV series, "Game of Thrones," in which he plays the role of Brynden "Blackfish" Tully.
"Outlander" Season 2 will premiere in Spring 2016.
